Program
Brian Irving introduced Wright Tilley, Executive Director of the Watauga County/Town of Boone TDA. The Town and County TDAs merged in 2010. The TDA’s mission is to promote and attract visitors to the High Country. All of the TDA’s funding comes from occupancy taxes. The NC Legislature mandates that TDA funds be allocated 2/3 for marketing/promotions and 1/3 other (for example, Howard Street project and Jones House support for the Town, Middlefork Greenway and Rocky Knob Park for the County).
In the most recent fiscal year (7/1/20-6/30/21), 85% of marketing was aimed at NC residents, with an increased focus on Atlanta as well. Targeting international visitors is left to the state’s Visit NC campaign. Marketing campaigns have become more digital, with enhanced URL tracking of users.
The TDA continues to market at some live venues, including MerleFest, Hornets games and the IBMA.
The TDA’s new campaign, “Inspiring Awesome Since 1849″ acknowledges the County’s founding date. Drones are used for outdoor videos in the campaign.

Caroline Poteat led the 4 Way Test. John Eckman adjourned the meeting at 8:25 a.m.
