ASU Seeking Host Familes

affiliatemapThis summer, Appalachian State’s Office of International Education and Development in partnership with Academic Civic Engagement will host a group of 25 young adult African leaders (from several African countries) for a 6-week training focused on civic leadership, as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders program. We are looking for families to host one or two of these visitors in their home during one or both of the following weekends:

Friday, July 8 – Sunday, July 10
Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17

The Mandela Washington Fellowship Institute Fellows are from the following 19 countries:
Benin,  Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The purpose of these homestays is to introduce our African visitors to home and family life in the US, as well as promote cross-cultural learning with their host families. We hope you will enjoy incorporating your Mandela Washington visitor into your weekend routine and family activities.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Google Form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me; I would love to talk with you more about this opportunity.
