The following was received from The Rotary Foundation for Club consideration:
#GivingTuesday
Dear Zone and District Leaders,
As we in the US and Puerto Rico approach Thanksgiving, it is a great time to be thankful for what we have and to thank our donors and volunteers for what they have accomplished. Thank you for all you do for Rotary and for The Rotary Foundation. Without your dedication and support, the Rotary Foundation would not be able to help as many people as it does worldwide and in your own back yard.
A wonderful opportunity to promote giving in your area at this time of year is Giving Tuesday. In the tradition of Black Friday and Cyber Monday you may have heard that a couple years ago there was a trend to start Giving Tuesday. #GivingTuesday is an online movement for charities and individuals to come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Although Rotarians give to their communities and our Foundation year round, #GivingTuesday is a great chance to reach new supporters by leveraging social media and the momentum of Foundation Month in November.
On December 1st, 2015 celebrate giving and giving back with Rotary by participating in #GivingTuesday. Last year, our Foundation raised over $100,000 on #GivingTuesday to fund sustainable, life changing projects. With your support on December 1st we can transform even more lives this year.
Your district could earn a visit from Trustee Chairman Ray Klinginsmith by participating in #GivingTuesday. The district with the highest number of donors who contribute to The Rotary Foundation online on December 1st, 2015 may receive a visit from the Trustee Chairman, schedule permitting.
As you look to inspire giving in your area please use resources such as our vimeo page or look at successful projects on Rotary Showcase. Another thing I would like to share with you is something that is very exciting to me. Last year we started a “Give the gift of Rotary “ page giving people ideas of what their money can do. I urge you to visit http://www.rotary.org/givethegift and see what a gift to the Rotary Foundation can do to make the world a better place.
Best regards,
